The article I just read talks about thirty successful video game marketing campaigns. It talks about how much time and money companies actually put into marketing their video games effectively, and efficiently. Grand Theft Auto V had a two hundred and ninety-million-dollar budget to use for both development and marketing. On the other hand, low budget games such as Angry Birds used proper promotion, advertising, and marketing to effectively sale their unknown mobile game to the public. The 2013 reboot of Tomb Raider sold 3.4 million copies in the first month, and 6 million copies in a year due to great marketing. They used YouTube to rack up 6 million views of the initial teaser, and later used gaming channels such as Game Informer to market their product. The game won multiple marketing awards in 2014 due to their sales surpassing their initial sales projection. Another famous franchise that the article talks about is the Halo series, mainly Halo 3. The company used a forty-million-dollar budget to market its game at E3 in May of 2006. Microsoft, the company that owns exclusive rights, then used ten million dollars on a “Believe” campaign to promote the game. This involved making a website, video series, diorama, alternate reality game, and over ten thousand global launch parties. Other games and their marketing techniques can be read in the link posted below.
